Hot
Rolled Steels are heated red-hot and pushed through
rollers that squeeze the metal into a particular
profile, depending on the shape of the rollers.
Cold
Finished Steels are rolled when the steel is cold (room
temperature), the whole operation bathed in oil.
Chemically, C1018 is very similar to A36 Hot Rolled steel,
but the cold rolling process produces better properties.
C1018 has a carbon content of 0.18%.
ASTM A36 steel has a carbon content or 0.26% and is
the most commonly available hot-rolled steel.
